Team Barloworld's Mauricio Soler is finally back. In the sixth, closing stage of Tour Mediterraneen the strong Colombian climber took a brilliant second place, providing an awesome performance during the final ascent up to Mont Faron, where the arrival was set. The victory went to David Moncoutie (Cofidis), whilst Team Barloworld's Chris Froome rounded out the podium.

Today's stage, from Nice to Mont Faron (165 km), was expected to show the final battle between the major contender to the overall victory. Only the best riders of the peloton could hunt for a win and Team Barloworld demonstrated all their strength thanks to Mauricio Soler and Chris Froome's efforts. Soler started his attack at the beginning of Mt. Faron, and he immediately managed to drop many riders from the peloton. Unfortunately, the riders climbed the final ascent from the easier side and Mauricio had no chance to increase his lead and to exploit the great skills that make him one of the best climbers in cycling.

In the finale, with 500 mt to go, Cofidis' Moncoutie joined Soler together with Team Barloworld's Chris Froome in his wake. The sprint favoured the French rider, but Barloworld 's guys caught another chance to show their excellent shape in this outstanding 2009 season start.

"Although we missed the win today - stated Team Manger Claudio Corti - I'm very happy with the whole team. Soler is on the path back to his best condition and Chris Froome, after last year's good results at the Tour de France, confirmed to be a classy climber". "Through this Tour Mediterraneen we practically reached the podium every day. Unfortunately, today the Mont Faron was not as hard as expected, and Mauricio couldn't manage to distance his rivals as he wanted to do. But he's back. This is the most important thing!"

In the Giro della Provincia di Grosseto, Team Barloworld ended up the three-days stage race in Massa Marittima with a positive experience. "We started with Michelo Merlo's third place and we continued finishing the other two stages always in the first positions. The guys did a good job and I'm sure we are ready to face the next forthcoming appointments with the right spirit", DS Valerio Tebaldi said.

Today's stage, Castiglione Pescaia-Massa Marittima of 145 km, went to Daniele Pietropolli of LPR Farnese, who also won the final classification.
